Summer Reading, Summer Jams, etc.

Currently Reading:
Miss Lonelyhearts & The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West

"Largely unknown during his brief lifetime, Nathanael West is now regarded as one of the finest authors of the 1930s--a writer whose slashing satires of American decay are so dead-on accurate that they are often painful to read. This is particularly true of his two best works, Miss Lonelyhearts and The Day of the Locust. Both novels are short and intense, and both present horrific visions of American society choking to death on its own mass-media fantasies."

Next Up:
A Time to Be Born by Dawn Powell. This is a great post about Powell's writing and life.

...I'm currently trying to satisfy my dream of actually living in New York by reading about New York in the old days.

Currently Listening:

Collector is my favorite track.

Just Watched:

I love all of the French New Wave references/samplings in this film. The soundtrack is fantastic too! This is actually my favorite jam from the film, although they didn't put it on the soundtrack.

What are you guys enjoying this week? What are you up to this weekend?

  1. I'm reading Island of the Blue Dolphins, an old book that I found from grade school and never finished. It's a good pool read. I just finished one of Chelsea Handler's books. Loved it!

  4. I am currently trying to finish My Brilliant Career by Miles Franklin, written in & set in turn of the century New South Wales when she was a teenager, its unashamedly romantic.

Then I'm moving on to more factual books, like Bright Young People by D. J. Taylor, because i long for the London of the 20s.

Bookmarking this, want to read that book!

Of course my favourite scene from this movie is when they race through the Louvre imitating the scene from Bande á Part. And Eva Greens wardrobe makes me green with envy! those velvet dresses!
